2016 ITALY Posillipo 42 - Lunch and TV Spot at a Villa

On our way to lunch (13:00 res), Chef John contacted the host to say we were running a little late. At that point she had a request for our group. Linea Verde, a magazine style TV show on a major Italian station, wanted to tape an episode during our visit. That sounded fun and a unique experience, so we all agreed.

The business that the mag was filming is Homeating (like eating in your home). The concept is a private "social dinner" and a (meta)-theatrical experience (their words). Basically in common lingo it means to mix artful surroundings with good food in a private setting.

You visit a villa or other fabulous private venue and enjoy a high-end, home-style Italian meal cooked by a chef. As of February 2017, there was a choice of seven chefs and 24 locations throughout Naples, the Amalfi Coast, or Milano. They also offer cooking classes.

The venue chosen today was Villa Sanfelice (a six bedroom luxury home) and our hosts were Carolina Buccino (in stripy skirt), her mom Barb, and friend Marcella (not shown). Hope I got these names right.
The villa has a story in itself. In the 19th century a British aristocrat fell in love and married a beautiful Neapolitan woman. He built this villa for her. In the 1980's, the current owners purchased the house and recently opened their home to Homeating events.

As the TV station prepared to shoot--setting up shots, prepping camera angles, and teaching the group a one-liner--we were served Caprése bruschetta and prosecco.

While we waited we wandered the grounds and looked off the terrace to the expansive sea view at the bottom of the hill.
The dining table was placed on the front porch...veranda?. It was tight quarters but wonderful to eat al fresco. A couple of us had our backs to the sun, so Marcella offered Alison and I sun hats. I think it saved a sunburn our necks. Plus we looked so cute!

Our chef today was Salvatore Falco.

He served traditional Italian dishes--veggie and buffalo mozzarella, pasta variations including a simple pasta marinara for the vegetarians, a pork dish, ragu (started the day before to cook), and more. There was also rustic bread and wonderful wine pairings. The dinnerware was classic Italian chic.

Wish I would have taken a photo before because the table was absolutely elegant. But here is the after shot.
Before and during lunch, the camera crew and TV hosts were busy filming and describing the facility. We were all coached on a final salute to the host. They spoke to us and we all replied "Brava Linea Verde."

After the filming and the meal, we were able to browse the living, dining, and bathrooms on the first floor. That also took us past the very small kitchen. Surprising what wonderful things came out of that tiny space. You realized that someone actually lived here with their personal effects lying about. It was fabulously decorated in an eclectic array of art and furniture. I was ready to move in.

Although our meal was a bit delayed and not as relaxing as it might have been due to the show, we still had a wonderful time. The show was in Italian, of course, but we watched the 7-minute spot on FB about a month later. Our part was short, but we looked great and had fun.
