2018 ICELAND Blue Lagoon 25 - Silica is Special

I think this is the most we've ever paid for a hotel room. One night = $740 USD. Sounds high (and IS high), but included breakfast at the hotel (about $35 USD per person) and premium entry fee (see insert -->) to the public Blue Lagoon ($90 USD pp).

So not as bad as first thought and closest hotel to the Lagoon. AND we like to go out with a big bank (oh, I mean BANG) on the last night of our trips.

A new branch of this hotel, The Retreat, just opened this summer and prices start at $1,132 USD!!!! So I guess we actually got a bargain. Haha!

The check-in desk was dark rock, like the outside wall of the hotel. The gal gave us all the pertinent info (hours of the hotel pool, breakfast arrangement, directions to the public Blue Lagoon and to our rooms).

The common areas of the Silica Hotel are so simple but so special. The architecture and decor are modern Scandanavian-ish--simple lines, light wood, not cluttered. Very much my style. First is a view to the hotel pool.
This is the breakfast area. Pool view to the right.
Kid's high chair. Very Scandy style.
The pool and private entrance to the hotel lagoon area. More later.
Viewing area to the mossy lava fields. Steamy public Blue Lagoon in the far distance.

Our room location was the farthest away from the front desk, minus two rooms. It was a little bit of a maze to get there. At one point there was a big window built around boulder, some of it inside (brown) and some out (more green). That was our "road sign" to let us know we were close.
Our room had a sofa, king bed, dressing table / desk, rocking chair. Very simple, very warm and comfortable. Luxurious linens and bath amenities.
The bathroom was modern and sleek. Plenty of room for both to get ready in the morning. The shower was open doored and huge. Bath amenities were the exclusive Blue Lagoon brand which is sold as a local specialty item around the island. Robes were on hand.

This was our view toward the mossy landscape and a mini lagoon. Snow blocked us from opening the door at this time of year, but in summer you can enjoy the space from chairs on a small deck.
