KALAMAZOO, MICHIGAN 2019 - Distracted by an Odd Couple

So I have been out of the loop for a while and ready to jump back into the continuing saga of our Russian cruise shortly. First, a couple of things.

Part of my diversion was I stage managed a play, Odd Couple-The Female Version. Instead of Felix and Oscar, think Florence and Olive.   Instead of poker, think Trivial Pursuit (with funny sexual innuendos). Instead of two sisters from England, think two brothers from Spain (with heavy Castilian accents). All too hilarious!

It was produced by Renae Felpausch's group SKITS & GIGGLES LLC here in Kalamazoo. We had five weeks of rehearsal and five performances. That kept me pretty busy as I not only stage managed, but created the program, rounded up ushers and crew (including my fabulous neighbor Alanta on props), did training of new crew, and collected many of the props.

Here are a few photos from our last performance. Not the best, but ...

I hadn't stage managed since Smokey Joe's Cafe at the Kalamazoo Civic in 2011 and this experience was a throwback blast. The Neil Simon play had lots of laughs. Director Katherine Mumma was a dream to work with. (She was the Olive and I was the Felix of our production.) The players were perfectly cast. The crew were super supporters in the process.

The timing and circumstances pulled me out of stage-managing retirement and it was fun while it lasted, but I don't plan to do it again soon.
