Four States Fall 2018 - 14 - Columbus Market

After a cocktail, we set out to explore. Our first stop was the historic North Market, maybe a block away
At the entrance we spotted a "holiday" tree decorated in fall decor. Although a smaller market than we expected, we found a huge variety of food stuffs inside. First stop was the spice bar. Bought a few little things there as they were easy to pack in our bags to take home.
There was the expected fresh produce items and the exotic. Had not seen this type of pumpkin before. It looked like it had broken peanut shells glued onto it. I image-googled it to find more info, but no luck.
Lots of baked goods.
Fish and meat counters.
Sweets.
Deli, pre-made meals, and pasta.

And lots of carry-out restaurants offering food from many countries.

There was also a little bit of art here and there. This one at the seafood counter.
The last vendor before we went out the door was a gelato stand. Oh, boy! Even though it was cool outside, we could not resist. I got a lavender-vanilla flavored scoop. We sat at picnic tables outside. It was heaven. Almost as good at Italy!

Only two outdoor vendors this time of year. One had a goat (enjoying a nap in the sun) and the other had bunnies and duckies. Not sure if they were for sale or for show, but very cute.

We always enjoy farmer and city markets, and visit them when we can on our trips out of town. As it goes, this was a wonderful market with lots of variety. Probably our two favorites though are the Pike Place Market in Seattle, Washington, and the Cleveland Market in Ohio. We used to go to Eastern Market in Detroit, but haven't been there in maybe 30 years. It is on our list for the next trip to Detroit though.

An aside We have a farm share from Green Gardens Community Farm and pick up our share of organic produce at the Kalamazoo Farmers Market every Saturday. They also have eggs, meat, and cheeses produced by their farm neighbors.
